Free website speed test
Measure how long your site takes to become usable on a real phone, on a real connection. One page, one run, no account.
We test the URL you enter and the pages it links to most.
What this test actually measures
Speed scores are easy to game and hard to act on. This test reports the moments a visitor notices — when the page appears, when it stops moving, and how much you sent to get there. Each one maps to something you can change this afternoon.
- Time to first byte
How long your server thinks before answering. Under 800ms is good.
- Largest paint
When the main content appears. Under 2.5s is good.
- Layout shift
How much the page jumps while it loads. Under 0.1 is good.
- Transfer weight
What you are sending, and which files could be smaller.
What a result looks like
Slower than 78% of the shops we test.
Stable. Nothing jumps as it loads.
12 images account for 3.1 MB of it.
The report names the specific files responsible and what to do about each. There is no single number out of 100, because a score tells you how you rank against other sites, not what to fix on yours.
A test tells you about today. Monitoring tells you at 04:00.
Speed regresses quietly: a release, a plugin update, an image someone uploaded at full size. Nobody notices until conversion drops a fortnight later. Monitoring runs this same test on a schedule and tells you the moment it changes — alongside the deploy it followed.
Common questions
- Is this the same engine as the paid monitoring?
- Yes — the same checks, run the same way. The difference is that monitoring repeats them on a schedule and keeps the history, which is what turns a number into a trend and a trend into an alert.
- Does testing my site slow it down or change anything?
- No. Everything is read from the outside, the way a visitor arrives — no agent, no script on your pages, nothing written. Our requests identify themselves so you can recognise them in your own logs.
- Why is my result different from other speed tools?
- Most tools test from a data centre on an unthrottled connection. We test the way your visitors arrive, and we report the moments they feel rather than a weighted score, so the two numbers are not measuring the same thing.
